The third name of Pierre Jacques has been given a variety of spellings, including Paisey, Poitry, and Piotry. I have
studied the birth certificate of his son Pierre Edward (my great-grandfather) with a large magnifying glass and am convinced
that in that document the name is "Paitry". BUT on his own wedding certificate five years earlier it looks like "Poitry",
although this document is smudgy and more difficult to read. I have searched the web for Poitry and Paitry and BOTH appear
to be valid French names.
So for the time being "Paitry" it is.
Calkin, Pierre Jacques Paitry Youngest of 7 children born to Samuel & Eliza The Royal Society of Musicians records the following: Entry dated - 5th December 1852 "Violin Tenor and Piano Forte, and holds (for a second season), a situation in Drury Lane Orchestra. Is also reingaged for the approaching season at Vauxhall Gardens."
On birth certificate of son Pierre Edward dated 28th November 1855,
Julian's birth certificate of 1864 has family address at 83, Pratt Street, Camden Town,
Alfred's birth certificate of 1868 has family address at 22, Pratt Street, Camden Town,
1871 census has Pierre, his wife and nine children living at 28, Hanover Square, Lambeth.
