Calkin, Ellis James Middle of 5 children born to James and Mary Dancing Master. Ellis's details as listed in Historical Directories include: 1834 - Elias James, Professor of Dancing of Newhouse, Tittensor, Beech, Stone. 1835 - Same entry but now referred to as just James. The "Staffordshire Advertiser Index to Births, Marriages and Deaths 1821-1840" has the following entry: Ellis James Calkin married 27.04.1839. I would think from the marriage date below that the date above is the reported date afterwards. 1841 census has Ellis living with wife Barbara and son George at the "Township of Hilderstone". His occupation is again listed as "Dancing master". In the London Gazette dated 22nd July 1845 Ellis, residing for 8 years at Hilderstone, is petitioned for bankruptcy to appear at the Birmingham District Court of Bankruptcy. By the 1851 census Ellis had died, but see Barbara's entry below .... |
