Headstone of Samuel Calkin at Mount Pleasant Cemetery in Millville, New Jersey. |
Calkin, Samuel Third born of 7 children born to Samuel and Eliza Occupation on marriage certificate is given as "Dancing Master", and address of 50, William Street, Regents Park The 1841 U.K. census has Samuel living with wife (Mary) and son Samuel at 6, Wyndham Street in the Parish of St. Marylebone. His occupation is declared as "Coach Guard". The 1841 census was actually taken on 6th June 1841 and Samuel Jnr's age is accurately given as 1 month. I believe Samuel (elder) left his first wife, and re-married a girl 21 years his junior, as there is a very clear 1880 U.S. census entry for Samuel (aged 60), and wife Mary K. (aged 39). This U.S. census entry now lists Samuel as being a farmer living with his wife and seven children, living at Pittsgrove, Salem, New Jersey. |
