In 1881 census Eliza Gertrude was listed as Aged 22, living with her mother as above. In 1891 census "Eliza G. Fisher" was listed as aged 31, living with her husband and first born, at 26, Dayton Grove, Camberwell, Peckham. There are a few interesting points around Eliza and her future family: On 22nd September 1888 she married Arthur Edward Fisher (a "Merchants Clerk"), at The Parish Church, Kennington. Her address at the time of her marriage was still 11 Jewry Street, Aldgate. On the marriage certificate her father, Charles, was simply listed as "Deceased". His father was listed as "Commercial Clerk" Her husband, Arthur, was born on 6th February 1862 at Hadley, Barnet. His parents were Daniel & Sarah Ann (née Lampkin) Fisher. His father - at that time - was a "Messenger in the Treasury" who subsequently went on to become "Office Keeper Royal Mint" (1871 census). Arthur Edward Fisher died, aged 55 years, on 13th November 1917 at the Netherne Asylum, Merstham, in the registration district of Reigate, Surrey. He was a "Commercial Clerk" at the time of death and his home was in Holmwood, Dorking. Cause of death "Cerebral haemorrhage". Eliza Gertrude died many years later, aged 81, on 25th April 1941 at St. Annes, Redhill, Surrey. Her home at the time was Brooklyn Terrace North, Holmwood, Dorking Surrey. Causes of death were given as "Bronchitis and Myocardial Degeneration". The informant was given as "L.D.C. Fisher, Son, of Ryswyck, Canvey Island, Essex". Arthur & Eliza Gertrude had two children: Arthur Daniel Charles Fisher: Born - 17th May 1890 at 26 Dayton Grove, Peckham. Married: 19th December 1914 at St. Stephen's Church, Lewisham. His bride was Sarah Ann Louisa Secker (b 19.09.1890 in Streatham). At the time of marriage his occupation was given as "Clerk in Civil Service". At the time of his first son's birth in 1915 in Sydenham, his occupation was given as "Clerk to Crown Agent for Colonies". By the time of his second son's birth, in 1920 in Brockley, his occupation was given as "Clerk Civil Servant, Colonial Office, (ex RAF)". They had just the two boys and, sadly, Arthur & Sarah's eldest son died in Kings College Hospital, at the age of just 6 years in 1922 - of "Acute Mastoiditis & Meningitis". The family later moved to Canvey Island, Essex. And herewith follows another interesting story: Eliza'a eldest son died: 2nd February 1953, at his home on Canvey Island. Cause of death "Hypertensive heart failure and Cor. Pulmonale precipitated by Exposure during floods". The post mortem found that this was accidental. In other words, he was a victim of the terrible floods - his home was completely devastated and he was unable to salvage anything much at all.
Eliza's second son, George Frederick Fisher died: 23rd October 1901, aged 8 years, at home at 15 Kings Terrace, Scotts Road, Leyton, Essex Eliza's details therefore: |
