    On 26.05.1916 John was promoted to 2nd-Lieutenant of the Northumberland Fusiliers.
    The Debt of Honour Register at Roclincourt Valley Cemetery, Pas de Calais
    lists John as dying in action on Monday 9th April 1917, aged 25.
    John was a Second Lieutenant (25521) of 22nd (Tyneside Scottish) Battalion, Northumberland Fusiliers.

    Herbert Baptiste Calkin is listed in the First World War files as a Private in the Army (49702), Northamptonshire Regiment, but
    at the start of the war he would have been just 15.
    The 1921 census has Herbert (aged 22) living as a boarder with the Micklewright family living at 105, Okehampton Road, St. Thomas, Exeter.
    Under occupation he has been listed as "Full time education - Pharmacist" at Univeristy College, Gandystreet, Exeter.
    In WW2 Herbert Calkin (344330) was commissioned to 2nd Lieutenant of a Devon regiment on 6th February 1945
    The London Gazette of 21st June 1963 reports Herbert's death and lists him as a Chemist of 53A Fore Street, Salcombe, Devon.

         Married: c. 06.1928 to Ivy Vickery (b. 29.05.1891 - 05.1984 died in Exeter) registered in Wallingford.
         Died: 10.04.1963 Aged 63, registered at Kingsbridge, Devon

    The 1911 census has Hugh (aged 3 months) as living with his parents as above.
    The 1921 census has Hugh (aged 10) living with his parents as above.
    He has been listed as being in full-time education.
From a letter my grandfather (Arthur Calkin) wrote 13th August 1952, one could assume that Hugh was also a Chemist.

         Married: c. 03.1939 to Jessie Olive Taylor (b.22/10/1900 - d.12/1974) registered in Birmingham.
