In 1871 census Alfred S. was listed as Aged 1, living with his parents as above.
The 1901 census has Alfred living with his wife and three of his children at 2, Vineyard Terrace, Finchley, Middlesex.
Occupation as declared in 1901 census = "Postman".
On son Albert's birth certificate in 1908 Alfred's occupation is still "Postman", but now living at,
6, Beaconsfield Cottages, Long Lane, Finchley.
The 1911 census has Alred Samuel (aged 41) living with his wife and six children at 6, Beaconsfield Cottages, Long Lane, Finchley.
Occupation as declared in 1911 census = "Postman".
First World War Service Records list Alfred as Service Number 180642 Middlesex Regiment Labour Corps.
The 1921 census has Alred Samuel (aged 51) living with his wife and four children still at 6, Beaconsfield Cottages, Long Lane, Finchley N3.
Occupation as declared in 1921 census = "Assistant Head Postman".

The London Gazette of 18th February 1930 has Alfred being awarded the Imperial Service Medal as he retired as "Overseer, London Postal Service"

         Married: c. 12.1891 to Matilda Kettle at St. Saviour
         Died: c. 09.1954 Aged 84, registered in Hendon.
Calkin (nee Kettle), Matilda
         Born: c. 09.1870 at Castle Bytham, Lincolnshire (registered in Bourne 7a 302)
         Died: c. 12.1956 Aged 86, registered in Hendon.

The 1901 census lists Ernest (aged 8) living with his parents as above.
The 1911 census lists Ernest (aged 18) living with his parents as above.
His occupation is given as "Railway Telegraph Lad".
         Born: 17.06.1892 at St. Pauls, Walworth, London
         Married: c. 12.1914 to Eveline May Kerry, registered at Shardlow.
         Died: c. 09.1952 Aged 59, registered in Romford
Louisa
The 1901 census lists Louisa (aged 4) living with her parents as above.
The 1911 census lists Louisa (aged 14) living with her parents as above.
His occupation is given as "Daily Service".
         Born: 06.05.1896 at St. Clements and St. Lukes, London
         Married: c. 09.1919 to Ernest F. Walpole registered in Barnet
         Died: c. 02.1984 Aged 87, registered in South East Hants.
Nellie
The 1901 census lists Nellie (aged 9 months) living with her parents as above.
The 1911 census lists Louisa (aged 10) living with her parents as above.
His occupation is given as "Scholar".
Nellie and husband George emigrated to Canada, but at some time in the
early 1930's they parted and Nellie returned to England.
She re-married and returned to Canada where she ended her days.
         Born: c. 06.1900 at Finchley, Middlesex
         Married: c. 03.1921 to George H. J. Lewis registered in Barnet.

         Died: c. 1995 Aged 95, in Canada.

The 1921 census lists Gladys (aged 18) living with her parents as above.
Her occupation is given as "Telephonist at the G.P.O.".
         Born: 01.09.1902 registered in Barnet.
         Married: c. 09.1929 to Cecil M.S. Gale registered in Barnet.
One Child
Brian Stewart Gale b. 1933 in Barnet.
         Died: c. 03.1992 Aged 89, registered in Barnet.
Hilda
The 1911 census lists Hilda (aged 5) living with her parents as above.
The 1921 census lists Hilda (aged 15) living with her parents as above.
Her occupation is given as "Out of work - previously at school".
         Born: 18.03.1906 registered in Barnet
         Married: c. 06.1930 to Henry C. Simpson registered in Barnet
         Died: c. 12.1985 Aged 79, registered in Cheltenham.
Albert
The 1911 census lists Albert (aged 2) living with his parents as above.
The 1921 census lists Albert (aged 12) living with his parents as above.
His occupation is given as "in full-time education".
         Born: 30.11.1908 registered in Barnet.
         Married: c. 09.1933 to Winifred E. Willis, registered in Barnet.
         Died: c. 08.1989 Aged 80, registered in Canterbury.
Irene L.
The 1921 census lists Irene (as "Alrene") (aged 8) living with her parents as above.
She is listed as being in full time education.
After her first husband was killed in W.W.II, Irene remarried.
         Born: c. 03.1913 registered in Barnet
         Married: c. 09.1937 to Thomas James Pavia Bloomfield registered in Barnet.
    Thomas is listed as dying in action on 27th May 1942 in Libya,
    and is buried 20 miles west of Tobruk.
    He was a Sergeant (420550) of 4th County of London Yeomanry (Sharpshooters),
    Royal Armoured Corp.

         Re-Married: c. 09.1948 to Charles H. Ledgett (b. 1912) registered in Paddington.
Charles H. Ledgett was a lawyer based in London.
