Fifth of 6 children born to Ernest and Ada Isabel
The 1911 census lists John Ernest (aged 10 months) living with his parents as above.
The 1921 census lists John (aged 11) staying at Central London District Schools Greenford Avenue, Hanwell, Middlesex.
Fusilier John Ernest Calkin No 3126621 was 15 when he joined the Royal Scots Fusiliers in Hounslow in 1926.
He was awarded a Palestine Campaign medal for service in 1938.
(I was contacted by a Richard Bonney who bought John's actual medal in a charity auction)
He was a brave man, a stretcher bearer and one of the men to escape Dunkirk in June 1940.
He travelled many places during the war and was not fond of India !

         Married: c. 03.1951 to Eveline Maud Rimmer (b. Moore), registered in Surrey N.E.

         Died: c. 12.1979 Aged 69, registered in Merton.

         Died: c. 12.2000 Aged 93, registered in Kingston upon Thames.

Michael's daughter Suzanne informs me that her Aunt Christina has one daughter.
