Some great titles too.
Also note one that has a playing speed of 80 r.p.m. and one with Harry Roy's signature.
Arthur left us these records and mentioned he played on them but Rust & Forbes does not include him in the members of some of these.
There are a couple that definitely don't make sense as the recording dates quoted in Rust and Forbes don't fall in line with my Grandfather's own scrapbook which shows certain dates he joined bands. It is clear that there are discrepancies. But, we are sure back at that time he did help out with other bands and filled in on occasions when personnel weren't available. Indeed, my father also confirms as such. He definitely made un-credited appearances, just as it's quite probable that he missed out on some Harry Roy sessions, so we can never be sure who actually played on every recording.
A good example is this first record below. It is credited to Jack Hylton's Hyltonians but Rust and Forbes lists it as recorded by the Kit-Cat Band. The Kit-Cat Club was in London's Haymarket.
There are very familiar names in the band list in R&F, but Arthur is not mentioned.
Arthur Calkin at the time of that first recording below would have been 34 and just about to be full time with some very big bands. It does make sense that he was already musically competent and
moving in the right circles. Therefore it is very likely indeed that he sessioned on this record.
